About our review ratings

Each of our broadband provider reviews has been written by one of our in-house broadband experts to provide an overview of the services offered by each provider. However, the number of stars awarded that provider has been assigned by its customers. It is a representation of the average satisfaction of its customers across a variety of categories.

In order to gather this information, Cable.co.uk polled more than 6,000 UK broadband customers to discover exactly how they rate their current providers. Since you're here, there are a few things you may wish to be aware of before diving into the reviews.

• The broadband compensation scheme – If you're not getting the broadband service you're entitled to any point during your contract, you may qualify for automatic compensation, which Ofcom introduced in April of 2019
• Ofcom complaints – If you experience a problem with your chosen provider, be that technical or some other failure in the service you are paying for, your fist port of call should be to complain to your provider. However, if your provider does not deal with your complaint to your satisfaction, you can complain directly to Ofcom, the UK telecoms regulator
• Broadband speed guarantees – It's important to remember that the speeds advertised by providers are based on measured averages across their entire customer base. That means it's quit possible to receive a substantially faster or slower speed than that which is advertised. To provide some reassurance, most providers now offer a speed guarantee. That is, during the sign-up process they will promise you a guaranteed minimum speed. If your speed falls below the speed guarantee, you have the opportunity then to complain, have it dealt with as a matter of priority, complain to Ofcom if it is not fixed within a reasonable timeframe, and of course take advantage of the broadband compensation scheme
• Price guarantees – In addition to speed guarantees, you will sometimes come across broadband packages with a price guarantee. Usually, this means the provider promises not to raise the price during the full period of your contract, though these types of contract will tend to try to tie you in for longer in exchange for this promise, so be aware of that. Typically, contract pricing rises every year in line with inflation (and sometimes beyond). When this happens, you have a window of opportunity to switch provider without incurring any fees. In this sense, price rises can be a good thing, so consider carefully whether a price guarantee is something you really want
• Limited or unlimited broadband? – Thankfully, this is something you no longer need consider by and large as all UK broadband deals are unlimited except for some rare exceptions that use alternative technologies such as satellites or UK a mobile network to send and receive data
