There are many reasons to choose Sky for your TV services over other providers. Here is a breakdown of additional offerings by Sky that set them apart from the competition.
Sky Signature (previously Sky Entertainment) is Sky’s basic TV package, but with a range of channels this large, it’s far from basic. Sky TV includes 300 satellite channels, 100 premium channels and more than 500 box sets, meaning you can watch – and rewatch – all your favourite series, including Mare of Easttown, Riviera, Watchmen, Succession, Game of Thrones, Westworld and many, many more.
Sky Atlantic is well-known for its world-class television, exploring new worlds, digging deep into characters and for its compelling and fantastic stories. One of Sky’s most popular offerings, Sky Atlantic is primarily dedicated to imported programmes from the United States, and holds the exclusive rights to HBO and Showtime dramas in the UK. It also broadcasts many of its own original Sky productions, which are very popular in their own right.
Sky Sports doesn’t come as standard but sports fans can add it to any Sky package for an extra monthly fee. Sky Sports offers 11 dedicated sports channels, most of them covering a specific sport (football, cricket, F1 Racing, etc.). On top of Premier League games, NBA, boxing, cricket, NFL and more, you’ll also get Sky Sports News with this popular add-on.
You also have the option to add on BT Sport, which gives you access to BT Sport 1, 2, 3 and BT Sport ESPN, all available in high definition. BT Sport has exclusive live broadcasting rights in the UK for Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League until at least 2024, so football fans will like this one. And if you sign up for both BT Sport and Sky Sports add-ons, you will get an additional discount.
Sky Cinema is brilliant for film fanatics, offering an extra 11 channels dedicated to all sorts of films, for an extra monthly fee. Sky Cinema offers the latest cinema blockbusters, BAFTA and Oscar winners from all around the world.
Sky One and Sky Witness (previously known Sky Living) come standard, though you would need to pay extra for these with competing providers like Virgin Media. This means you get access to series such as The Blacklist, Hannibal, Madam Secretary, Grey's Anatomy and more. You also get stations that would usually be available on more premium packages with other providers like Fox, Gold, MTV, National Geographic and Discovery.
You get exclusive access to popular Sky Original shows like Hausen, Riviera and Chernobyl, as well as many more currently only available on Sky unless you’re willing to shell out for the blu-ray or buy outright from another premium service such as Amazon or iTunes.
All new Sky TV customers get the top-notch Sky Q set-top box and high quality on-demand content. Sky Q is one of the most high-spec boxes available on the market right now. The basic model comes with 1TB of storage as standard, and there is a premium 2TB version which allows more recording time if you won’t be able to catch your favourite shows live and want to record and catch up later.
Sky TV offers a Kids add-on to your basic package for £6 per month, offering eight dedicated, family-friendly channels, including Cartoon Network, Boomerang, Cartoonito, Nickelodeon, Nick Jr, and more to keep your little ones entertained.
Once you’ve registered as a Sky customer, download the free ‘Sky Go’ mobile application which will allow your whole family to watch Sky TV around your home. Sky Go lets you register up to six devices and watch TV on two devices at the same time.
Sky TV includes a free basic Netflix subscription, and you can upgrade to their more premium subscriptions to watch in HD or on multiple devices for an additional fee. You have the option to add on extras like Disney+, and you can stream Amazon Prime Video through your Sky Q box by downloading the app if you’re an existing Amazon Prime customer, though you can’t currently bundle the service with Sky TV, like you can with Netflix.
By bundling your TV and broadband with Sky, you get access to top-notch entertainment for everyone in your household, fast and reliable broadband, and you save a bit of money each month by consolidating your services.
Sky offers mobile phone services via Sky Mobile, but there isn’t currently any discounts if you bundle mobile with TV and/or broadband services.
You can use the postcode checker at the top of this page to see which products and broadband speeds are available in your area.
You’ll need a Sky engineer visit to get your TV service up and running, but the setup is usually pretty straightforward. The engineer will check that everything is OK with your existing dish if you already have one, or will install a new satellite dish.
Then he or she will set up the Sky Q set top box and any Sky Q Mini boxes you may have ordered to go in other rooms. The visit shouldn't take much longer than an hour and you can expect this to happen relatively quickly after placing your order online. Your viewing card will be sent to you in the post, and everything else will be taken care of on the day of your engineer visit.
You can do most things online at Sky.com, with Sky’s help centre and their virtual chat service. There’s a community forum as well. You'll find handy guides that deal with all kinds of issues and queries on their website. Sky says over 90% of its customers who use its online guides get the help they need before even having to get in touch. That being said, Sky is known for its excellent customer service should you need it, and you can get in touch with Sky by phone if you need help with something not covered in its guides.
Sky VIP is a loyalty programme for Sky customers. This tiered reward system depends on how long you have been a Sky customer, with exciting rewards on offer that vary from year to year. Every new customer that signs up gets to choose a free movie from the Sky Store as a welcome gift. You need to opt in to Sky VIP, and won’t automatically get it if you sign up for Sky TV.
You have the option to cover your Sky TV equipment against breakdown and accidental damage for an extra fee. This protection is called Sky Protect, which covers your Sky boxes, dish and other equipment, promising next-day repairs and a free UK helpline available every day.
You can also add up to eight devices (TVs, mobiles, game consoles, tablets, laptops, etc.) to your policy. You get unlimited repairs and there are no parts, labour or call-out charges.
Sky offers some of the best TV entertainment out there, but as with all services, there are pros and cons to consider. Sky TV offers premium quality, and as a result is more expensive than other pay TV options out there. Some of the best on-demand content is only available with premium packages, so be sure to check what is included in the offer you choose if you want access to specific content.
Sky TV is provided by satellite to provide you with superior picture quality and a more reliable service. Sky requires satellite dish installation, and even if you have a dish already, an engineer will have to come out and ensure everything is set up correctly. This may or may not be a problem depending on where you live and whether or not you own the property or are renting.
For European football fans, BT Sport currently has exclusive live broadcasting rights in the UK for Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League until at least 2024. You can, however, access BT Sport as an add-on to your Sky TV package, but for an additional monthly fee.

Yes. To receive Sky services you will need to have a dish. If there is already a dish on your property, Sky will still send an engineer out to get you connected and make sure it is still working properly.
Sky TV with a Q box does require a decent internet connection to access your content. A landline is usually not required, however it might be included in your current internet service provision depending on the type of connection you have.
