EE broadband

Why choose EE broadband?

Get a boost to your mobile data – If you’re an EE mobile customer with a pay monthly plan, you’ll get an additional 5GB of mobile data if you sign up for an EE fibre broadband plan. That goes up to an extra 20GB if you get an ultrafast Fibre Max plan.

Add on Apple TV 4K with BT Sport – EE TV is being retired, but in its place EE is offering broadband bundles with Apple TV 4K, with BT Sport included. Apple TV 4K provides access to apps such as BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub and All 4, as well as subscription channels such as Netflix and Prime Video.

Get a free Smart Hub router – All EE’s fibre broadband packages come with a free Smart Hub router, which the company claims provides signals that are twice as powerful as the Bright Box router bundled with its standard broadband plan. For an extra £10 a month, you can upgrade to the EE Smart Wi-Fi service, which includes a Smart Wi-Fi Booster Disc that can extend the range of the Wi-Fi in your home. It also comes with a portable 4GEE Wi-Fi Mini Hotspot that you can take with you to generate a Wi-Fi signal from EE’s mobile network.

What is EE broadband?

EE has been around since 2010, when the UK mobile providers Orange (owned by France Télécom) and T-Mobile (owned by Deutsche Telekom) were merged. A couple of years later, what was previously known as Orange broadband was rebranded as EE broadband, and the company expanded into fibre optic broadband, too.

Then, in early 2016, EE was bought out by BT. But even though BT broadband and EE broadband are run by the same company, they’re not quite the same: take a look at this guide to see some of the differences.

What does EE broadband offer?

Because they’re run by the same company, there are a lot of similarities between EE broadband and BT broadband in terms of the network and routers. But there are also a few differences in the packages each one offers. Below are the main broadband packages offered by EE.

  • EE Standard Broadband – This is EE’s slowest option, an ADSL connection with average speeds of 10Mbps. However, this might be enough if you only use the internet rarely – take a look at our guide to see what internet speed is right for you.
  • EE Fibre Broadband – Over three times as fast as EE’s Standard Broadband, Fibre Broadband offers average speeds of 36Mbps. It’s currently available to over 90% of UK households: you can use our fibre broadband checker to see whether it’s available in your area.
  • EE Fibre Plus Broadband – Fibre Plus offers double the speeds of Fibre Broadband, with an average of 67Mbps.
  • EE Fibre Max Broadband 100, 300 and 900 – EE’s Fibre Max packages use the FTTP (fibre to the premises) network, where the fibre optic cable goes right to your house, rather than stopping at the cabinet at the end of the street and going through copper cables for the rest of the way. FTTP is currently available to only around 11% of UK households, although this figure is increasing all the time. Fibre Max Broadband 100 offers average speeds of 145Mbps, Fibre Max Broadband 300 has average speeds of 300Mbps, and Fibre Max Broadband 900 has average speeds of 900Mbps.

Pros & cons of EE broadband

Cons

  • The highest broadband speeds are only available to around 11% of UK households
  • All deals require a minimum 18-month contract
  • Requires a landline, and all deals include line rental

Frequently asked questions

Is EE broadband any good?

While EE doesn't do an awful lot to stand out as a broadband provider, it is a safe pair of hands and a good choice if you're already a EE Mobile customer. You can read our full review of EE Broadband for our detailed opinion.

Does EE broadband include line rental?

As of a few years back now, all providers must advertise their prices with line rental included. EE Broadband is no exception and while it may separate out line rental on your bill, the prices advertised are the prices you will pay.

Is EE fibre broadband available in my area?

In all likelihood, yes. EE Broadband, as with all other broadband providers on the Openreach network, is available to around 97% of UK homes. Note, though, that if you can't get fibre from other providers, it is all but certain you can't get it from EE either.

What is EE Broadband?

It is the home broadband service offered by EE, the UK's largest mobile network provider.

Is EE Broadband better than BT?

Truth be told, you'd be hard pressed to pick between them. Both offer the same speeds and even the same router. Choice for most will come down to whether they are already with EE for their mobile (some benefits if they are), or if they are already with BT for their landline.

How much is EE Broadband?

EE broadband prices start from £24 per month. To check the latest prices, use our comparison tool.
